This engraving reminds me of chapter 23 when Okonkwo and the other Umuofia tribe leaders are handcuffed and imprisoned. Similarly, the piece depicts a 19th century chieftain and his kinsman after being subdued by British troops. The unique layout and perspective of this painting are what first caught my attention. Invitingly, the scene opens towards the onlookers almost so that the viewers themselves complete the fence of wary soldiers.
