In Jack White’s new solo single “Love Interruption” he contrasts the idea’s of love by personifying it with violent actions such as “stab”,”grab”, and “bite.” This ironic diction reminds me of Khadijah’s sonnet by e.e. Cumming’s “Cambridge Ladies.” The structure of the poem is a free-verse sonnet. Instead of talking about love, Cummings displays the distain he has for the Cambridge Ladies. The use of twisting diction and structure in e.e. Cumming’s “Cambridge Ladies” and Jack White’s “Love Interruption”display how irony can be used with love. How do you guys feel about this? are there any other connections to ironic love in our literature or pop culture?
